Get to Know the Redesigned 2022 Toyota Tundra
After 15 years, Toyota gave the 2022 Tundra a complete overhaul from the powertrain to the infotainment system.
The well-equipped Tundra comes in six trims with several drivetrains, cabs, and bed configurations. With the
redesign, the 2022 Toyota Tundra has become a top contender in the full-size pickup competition, and the only one
without an available V8 engine.
Three Responsive and Capable Powertrains
The 2022 Toyota Tundra comes with three powertrains. The first is the base engine, which is a twin-turbocharged
3.5-liter V6 with 348 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. All engine choices come with a standard 10-speed
automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. All models can be upgraded to four-wheel drive, while some come
standard with it.
The second choice is the same engine, but with 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. This engine is standard on
all trims, except the SR. Finally, the Tundra comes in a hybrid model that includes the V6 engine paired with an
electric engine. Together, they deliver 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. At slow speeds, the electric motor
takes over and reduces the amount of fuel the Tundra needs.
For added performance and a more comfortable ride, the 2022 Tundra has a coil-spring rear suspension rather than
the leaf-spring used in the previous generation. Drivers who select the TRD Off-Road package get the full benefit
of the new suspension as it’s paired with off-road suspension and skid plates. The TRD Sport has lowered
suspension and 20-inch wheels. For more off-roading capabilities, the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro includes a lift,
dampers, and 18-inch wheels on all-terrain tires.
The Toyota Tundra towing capacity is also impressive. When equipped with the necessary towing accessories, the
Tundra has a maximum towing capacity of 12,000 pounds. Its maximum payload capacity is 1,940 pounds.
As the Tundra only comes with a V6, it gets better gas mileage than typical trucks in the class. The
EPA-estimated fuel economy on the two non-hybrid models is 18/24 and 18/23. The hybrid model has not yet been
rated.
Equipped with Toyota Safety Sense
The 2022 Toyota Tundra models all come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. This suite of features
includes a Rear View Camera, Forward Collision Warning with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Automatic Emergency
Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, and Traffic Sign
Recognition.
The TRD Pro comes with additional safety features that include a Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert
and Trailer Merge Warning. It also comes with Front and Rear Parking Assist with Automatic Braking. With the
safety features working together, the 2022 Tundra has semi-autonomous driving abilities on some divided highways.
Well-Equipped with Infotainment Technology
The full-size pickup truck also comes with plenty of high-tech infotainment features. The SR and SR5 models come
with an 8.0-inch touchscreen with a nine-speaker sound system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM, and
other Toyota Connected Features.
The mid-level trims like the Limited and Platinum come with a 14-inch touchscreen with similar features, and the
top trims like the 1794 and the TRD trims have the same large touchscreen infotainment system with a premium JBL
sounds system with twelve speakers, a subwoofer, and an amplifier.

Impressive Styling on All Trim Levels
The SR is the base trim with vinyl seating and a Double Cab configuration. The SR5 comes in the Double Cab or
Crew Cab with the same interior features and technology. Upgrading to the Limited trim adds synthetic leather
seats with heated and ventilated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The Platinum trim is the first with standard leather. It also has heat and ventilation to the rear seats. This
trim also comes with a panoramic moonroof, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 12-speaker audio system with
wireless device charging.
Upgrading to the 1794 Edition adds premium accent materials and is only available with the CrewMax Cab. Drivers
who want a Tundra designed for off-roading should look no farther than the TRD Pro. This model has unique features
like Fox shocks, a high-strength fuel tank, an off-road camera, crawl control, and a locking rear differential.
The interior features are similar to the Limited trim.
